Britanny and Normandy areas capable of supporting 50 to 100 MW Tidal projects to be identified in France

During the event Seanergy 2017 held in Normandy, France, during which Open Ocean successfully presented Metocean Analytics solution, Ségolène Royal, French Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, requested that prefects of Britanny and Normandy, regions in the west of france, identify areas qualified to develop Tidal projects with a capacity between 50 and 100 MW.

Following the identification of these zones of interest, a call for tenders for commercial tidal farms is expected to be announced at the end of 2017.

Regarding offshore wind, Ségolène Royal assured Seanergy attendants of the industry’s next steps, such as:

o Launching of a competitive dialogue for a development area offshore Oléron Island (an island off the Atlantic coast of France).

o Designation of pre-selected candidates in April 2017 for the competitive dialogue associated to the Dunkirk (northern France) development area.

o Signing licences for occupation of public domain for the Courseulles-sur-mer, Fécamp and Saint-Nazaire projects in western France.

To identify the suitable areas for tidal projects, and find out the constraints on offshore wind structure, it is necessary to run an extensive analysis of metocean conditions. Metocean Analytics is the perfect tool for this analysis, since it offers metocean studies based on historical waves, currents, wind and ocean temperature datasets.
