The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a tidal power plant in San Bernardino Strait, off the coast of Sorsogon province. Sabella will provide the technology and the technical expertise for the project, while H&WB will be in charge of the resource assessment, site permitting and characterisation.
Sabella’s innovative D15 tidal turbines with a diameter of 15 m and maximum power output of 2 MW will be used to develop this project.
Jean-Christophe Allo, Project Manager at Sabella said ''H&WB decided to choose Sabella as we have the most suitable technology for the development of this tidal energy project.''
Earlier, the Philippine Department of Energy granted four ocean energy service contracts covering three areas in the San Bernardino Strait between Matnog, Sorsogon and Capul & Dalupiri, Leyte, and Cagayan to H&WB.
