Scotrenewables SR2000 tidal turbine generates over 18MWh of energy within a 24-hour testing period

After reaching its full-rated capacity of 2MW in April 2017, Scotrenewables SR2000 tidal turbine clocked over 18MWh of tidal power generation in 24 hours. The turbine is installed at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), a tidal test site in Orkney, Scotland.

MaRINET2 open calls for offshore developers to gain free access to test facilities

The Marine Renewables Infrastructure Network (MaRINET2) is calling for applications from offshore technology developers to have free access to testing and research infrastructure. Test sites includes wave, offshore wind, electrical/grid integration, tidal and cross-cutting.

Ocean Energy Europe declares that 337GW of ocean energy capacity could be deployed around the world by 2050

Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) has recently released a study indicating that 337GW of ocean energy capacity could be deployed by 2050. Europe would be responsible for almost a third of this capacity (100GW).

Great news for tidal energy industry: government authorises the construction of first pilot tidal farm in France

On April 4, 2017, Manche’s prefecture (Normandy, France) has officially authorized the construction of the first pilot tidal farm in France. DCNS Energies and EDF EN will be responsible for the project, located within the Alderney Race (raz Blanchard), off the coast of Cherbourg, in northwest of France.

Britanny and Normandy areas capable of supporting 50 to 100 MW Tidal projects to be identified in France

During the event Seanergy 2017 held in Normandy, France, during which Open Ocean successfully presented Metocean Analytics solution, Ségolène Royal, French Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, requested that prefects of Britanny and Normandy, regions in the west of france, identify areas qualified to develop Tidal projects with a capacity between 50 and 100 MW.
