Bundesnetzagentur launches auction for offshore wind farms comprising a total potential of 3,100 MW

Federal Network Agency Bundesnetzagentur, German regulatory office for electricity, gas, telecommunications, post and railway markets, launched a tender for offshore wind farms. Bids must be submitted until  April 3rd 2017.

The bidding with the lowest rates will be granted funding. The maximum rate has been set at 12 cents per kilowatt hour. The auction is part of Germany's Offshore Network Development Plan 2025.

"Following the first photovoltaic installations, a competitive funding scheme is now also being introduced for offshore wind farms. The level of funding will no longer be fixed by the state, but will be determined in auctions by the market. This new approach will guarantee the steady and cost-effective expansion of offshore wind energy," said Jochen Homann, Bundesnetzagentur President.

The second auction will take place on April 1st 2018 representing again 1,550 MW thus totalizing 3,100, including a minimum of 500 MW to be awarded for wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
