Azerbaijan Plans to Develop an Offshore Farm in Caspian Sea

Azerbaijan is set to become the first country in the Caucasus region to boast an offshore wind farm as it plans to develop a 200 MW offshore wind project in the Caspian Sea.

The $428.5 million project in the Caspian Sea will be built between two oil-extracting platforms near the Pirallahi Island and is expected to be commissioned by 2021.
Jamil Malikov, deputy head of the State Agency of Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources said “The project has already received positive feedback from the Ministries of Environment and natural resources, finance, economy and industry and Energy''.

This initiative is a part of Azerbaijan's plans to generate 2 GW of renewable energy by 2020.
